About the artist

For over 15 years, David McHose has been creating marine illustrations. Prior to becoming involved
in marine art, he was a commercial artist in Rochester, New York and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. David also was
the staff illustrator for Saltwater Sportsman for 10 years. As a member of the International Game Fish Association,
David has contributed to their yearly auctions at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach. Many of David’s originals hang
in permanent display at the new International Game Fish Association World Fishing Center and Museum in
Dania Beach, FL. David was commissioned by the International Game Fish Association to illustrate the
Ten Pound Bass Certificate, the Billfish Grand Slam and the Back Country Grand Slam Certificates.

David has been a resident of Florida for 32 years. He now lives in West Palm Beach. Being located near
such excellent saltwater fishing provides much research for his illustrations. His past experience in product
renderings carries over into the accurate detail found in his art.

Watercolor, with pen and ink, is David’s medium. He feels this allows him the detailed renderings, which
cannot be obtained in other mediums. His work has been produced as limited edition prints and also on various
types of clothing.

One of David’s most enjoyable experiences was working on logo designs and graphics for Mark Sosin’s
ESPN TV show, Saltwater Journal. David said the experience gained by working with such an innovative
producer as Mark Sosin has been invaluable. David’s most recent print showing Mark Sosin casting to a
bonefish will be a limited edition of 175 prints signed by Mark Sosin.

David also has turned his subject matter to lighthouses. At present, there are three – St. Augustine, Jupiter,
and Hillsboro Inlet. The St. Augustine Lighthouse was in print with 300 signed and numbered prints.
This edition recently sold out.

David has returned to his love of tying fishing flies. He is presently illustrating the classic salmon flies he had tied.
The combination of an illustration with the actual tied fly framed in an oval frame makes a very unique presentation.

David’s most recent marine paintings are now combining his hand tied flies with the painting of the fish,
attracted by these flies.

These approaches to marine art, which David is creating, are unique and attractive.
