Don has spent most of his life developing a reputation as a painter of fresh
and salt water fish that ranks him as one of the finest in the field. His
paintings appear regularly in and on the most popular wildlife magazines
and sporting catalogs such as Field and Stream, Outdoor Life,
Florida Sportsman, Ontario Out of Doors, Game Fish (France), Cabela's,
Penn Reels, National Wildlife, etc.

His paintings have also been selected by the International Game Fish Association
 for the cover picture on their annual World Record Game Fishes Book.

Don strives to paint subjects in as natural of a setting as possible. That
includes studying the unique ways in which light is effected below the
surface and using those effects to more truthfully represent the animals
in their own environment. To accomplish this, much of his research
takes place underwater, in the natural habitat of the fish itself.

Ray's attention to detail won his paintings First place in a very competitive
Florida State Lobster Stamp competition in three
consecutive years -- 1990, 1991, 1992. In 1992,
his entry won him First Place in the Florida Snook Stamp competition
as well -- the States first double winner. In 1995, Don again won the
Snook Stamp and Print competition. Don was also chosen to paint the Costal Conservation Associations' 1994 Stamp and Print and was chosen again in 1999.
He was selected to paint the Texas Saltwater Fishing Stamp and print
for 1996-1997-2003.

He is a member of the Society of Animal Artists and has won the Society's Award of Excellence.
