Information on "Signed and Numbered Prints",
"Signed, Numbered, and Remarqued Prints",
"Artist Proof Prints" , "Canvas Edition Prints" and "Giclee"

Q. What are the differences between the five ways prints are available?

A. "Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Print" is as print made from an original Don Ray Oil Painting. Don decides which oils he wants to make prints from. He supervises the paper quality and directs the actual coloring process of a print series. He then decides how many prints will be made available. A "Signed and Numbered Print" can be requested with a particular number of the total available, i.e.: 417/950.

"Signed, Numbered and Remarqued Prints" (see example below) are the same as above and have a small duplicate fish painted or penciled in, by Don, in the margin of the print. Each remarque is actually an original piece of Don's work.

You can have any S/N print or artist proof remarqued by Don Ray for $150.00 see samples below

"Artist Proof Prints" are signed and numbered with an A/P before the numbering. These are hand picked from an entire lot (usually 50-100 each) as, in Don's opinion, the best of the prints. Even in the reproduction process some look a little better than the others.

"Canvas Edition" is a print done on actual canvas instead of paper. The canvas is on a wood frame. They are signed, numbered and C/E is placed before numbering, You would frame this the same way you would frame an original.

You can have
any Canvas Edition remarqued by Don Ray for $250.00

Many people who collect prints and art like to have their number 417/500, As their number. This is possible if the number you want is not already taken. Ask us for details.

All prints are prepared using the highest quality paper and ultra violet resistant inks.

Q: What is meant by Giclee?

A: The Giclee' process is started with a scan of the original art work.
This is a very high resolution process using very sophisticated and
expensive equipment. Fine tuning of the color process and setting up the
printer is then done with supervision from the artist. The actual
printing is the final phase, which is completed on  canvas or a paper
product of the artists choice. The result is an image that so closely
resembles the original that most of the time is hard to differentiate
the print from the original.
Don Ray offers this process on a canvas very similar to the original, or
watercolor paper.
